Lollo Samuelson: Paper and Ink

June 3 - July 8, 2023

KMR Arts presents Lollo Samuelson: In Line. Please join us for the opening Saturday, June 3, 2023, for a reception with the artist from 3:00 – 5:00pm. This is the first gallery show for Samuelson and will be showcase her series of ink drawings on handmade Japanese gampi paper. Wassily Kandinsky, in his seminal “The Spiritual in Art” described how a work of art is its own entity, a living, breathing organism which can act as a gateway into its own universe. Although Kandinsky’s writings refer to painting, Samuelson’s drawings echo a similar concept. These meditative works are, in a way, their own everything. The combination of the even, ordered, repetitive lines on the organic, handmade paper with its delicately frayed edges becomes an example of drawing in its most reductive form. In our modern world, with its constant barrage of audio and visual stimuli, these quiet and dignified works encourage us to look inward, to take in the silence that exists if we choose to listen.

“From the moment I saw Lollo’s work, I knew I wanted to exhibit the work at KMR Arts. I believe the rigorous sensuality in each drawing entices the viewer and pulls them into an intimate visual universe.” - Kathy McCarver, owner, KMR Arts
