Where Photography and Fashion Meet
November 5, 2009. Three seasoned fashion professionals have combined forces and resources to bring a Pop-Up Shop to the KMR Arts gallery in Washington Depot, CT on Saturday, November 21 thru Sunday, November 22. The Pop-Up store is the latest trend in retail – creating an air of surprise and exclusivity within a limited time span and offering unique selections of fine artwork, apparel and accessories.
KMR Arts gallery owner Kathy McCarver Root will host the event. Her gallery’s current exhibit “Paris a la Mode” lends itself to both the fashion and international mix of the Pop-Up Shop’s offerings. In addition to the current photography works on display at the gallery, McCarver Root will be offering signed copies of fine art photographer Lillian Bassman’s new book, “Lillian Bassman: Women.” Bassman was the featured artist at the gallery’s previous exhibit which was extended due to client demand and press interest.
Former fashion executive Maura de Visscher will be on hand to offer a unique selection of hand made artisan jewelry by Rosita Ciani of Naples, Italy. Ciani is known for her colorful pieces reflecting her love of nature and shape that feature semi precious stones created using old world techniques and craftsmanship. Ciani’s pieces have been worn by Nicole Kidman and Renee Zellweger among others. Also featured will be jewelry from Ceasar of Rome; as well as Native American Indian pieces and some finely culled vintage designer clothing and textiles.
Meredith Gray, a former fashion editor at Harper’s Bazaar will be offering one of kind hand embroidered cotton and chiffon kurtis (women’s tunics) from India. Gray will also have a selection of elaborately embroidered pashmina shawls from Kashmir. Gray, de Visscher and McCarver Root hope to provide a two day opportunity to shop internationally while remaining local.
